Excerpts from an interview with Michael A. Goodman

Interviewer: Surely
there are other books out there on management consulting. What’s
different about Rasputin For Hire?
Goodman: While there certainly are other books on
management consulting, there aren’t as many as you’d
expect given the high interest level in consulting as a viable
career option. I’ve read as many as I could find, and some
of them are really quite good. What they don’t do, though,
is look at the decision to enter management consulting as a between-jobs
option for experienced and savvy senior managers with extensive
experience in other industries and functional specialties. That’s
the primary target audience for Rasputin For Hire. It combines
what I’ve learned over the years as a management consultant
with what I picked up when I studied various job search strategies.
And, because most new consultants underestimate the importance
of marketing themselves to prospective clients, the book looks
at what it takes to actually land a consulting assignment and
succeed as a consultant once you make the decision that’s
what you want to do.
